Love, Rhythm, and Switching Your Beat

Love, Rhythm, and Switching Your Beat

What do rhythm and drumming have to do with love? Grab a cup of your favorite beverage and read on! Extra bonus points if you can identify the songs I've referenced.

Love and Happiness

In all the years that I've been working with both young people and also creatives, musicians, and entrepreneurs, I've discovered something interesting. When things aren't taking off like they've hoped or they feel stuck, discouraged, or even depressed, what's missing isn't what they think. Often, it's love.

I'm not talking about romantic love. I'm talking about feeling loved, appreciated, and understood. It's not only what's happening now but often what happened in the past. The current feeling could be a trigger from past events.?

When Love Comes to Town

However, when you're drumming it releases those “feel good endorphins.” This is especially powerful when you're drumming with someone or in a group.

People at my events have said that they feel “connected” and “loved.” They just needed to reconnect with themselves, each other, and, in many cases, with God, so they can “shift their beat.” A drum therapy client once told me: “Wow, Dori! If you change your rhythm, you can change your mindset, and change your life!” Yep. Check out this short video to see what I mean:?

The Power of Love

What's missing in today's word is kindness, pure and simple. We need to stop hiding behind our laptops and phones and really tune in and pay attention. It can make someone's day.

Even doing simple things like liking, commenting or sharing someone's post or leaving a nice review can really make a difference. It also creates a double serotonin boost. It makes them feel good and you feel good doing it.

That's why I love drumming! It's a concrete example of this! You've got to experience it to believe it! If you'd like to join me, here's a link to some upcoming workshops (in-person and virtual).

Happy early Valentine's Day!
