Tip – If you want to make an impact no matter what language you speak... take your punchline and shove it at the top! Make your bottom line your TOP LINE! That’s what my group in Paris LOVED last week.
LOVE! ??
Happy Valentines Day for tomorrow! Yes tomorrow is the 14th February and I’ve just come back from the city of LOVE… Paris.
Last week I was in gay Pareeeee, for a leadership summit with 18 senior engineers. I loved it.?
Their favourite tip was?PUNCHLINE AT THE TOP!
Many of my gifted and experienced clients in very technical sectors like; engineering, law, architecture, data analytics and compliance have a habit of “getting stuck in the weeds of detail” in meetings and pitches (their words not mine). So, my very simple punchline at the top rule is incredibly useful.
I remember producing the fabulous TV personality Vanessa Feltz at the BBC in the early 2000s and she would always say to our studio guests;
“So, what’s the punchline?… Cut to the chase”
I remember at the time thinking “Yes, what’s your point? Quick, we only have 2 minutes before we head into the news! ”
The rules of broadcasting in bite-sized chunks works extremely well in business – particularly in senior management meetings, pitches and online all-colleague calls. Small, punchy, clear and concise people who CUT TO THE CHASE in meetings are gold dust in business. Give it a go!?
Punchline at the top certainly “enchanted” the audience in Paris.??
My P.I (Presence & Impact sessions) are full of fabulous tips like the punchline in Paris. Please get in touch if your senior team need a nudge to get out of those weeds.
