Dear South Africa,
I know you're going through some tough times right now, I am writing this letter to let you know that I'm here for you—no matter how dark things get or how long it takes for them to get better. I left you for a minute to experience the world, grow and challenge myself more and I do think about you often and feel guilty at time for not being with you to contribute to your development in this season, I have faith that the time we are spending apart is beneficial for the both of us in the long run. Whatever happens next is only going to make us stronger as a people, and we will come out on top because of who we are: resilient, determined people who don't give up easily! And getting through it all has not been easy, I'm sure. But you are still the most beautiful and amazing country on earth. I know there are some things you wish you could do differently. I know sometimes it can be hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel. But you're strong — stronger than you think. And I want to tell you how much I love and admire your strength, your resilience and your ability to overcome any obstacle that gets in your way.
I am so grateful that we meet each other a long time ago and became best friends. You've taught me many things in life, but one of the most important things is how much I need to be humble. Being humble makes me more compassionate towards others, as well as myself; because when we are humble we learn not to judge a book by its cover. You have also taught me that laughter through tears is better than tears without laughter any day at all! Thank you for helping me become who I am today through the struggles and hardships that come my way - because without those experiences, who knows where or who I would be today! Thank you for my beautiful family and friends that you've given me.
You have also taught me that laughter through tears is better than tears without laughter any day at all!I am so grateful for the friends and family that you have given me.
I am so lucky to have the most amazing friends on earth, in South Africa and around the world. Their love has gotten me through some of life's toughest times and their support is always there when I need it most.
The people who know me best would probably agree that I'm a complete whirlwind of energy, ideas and emotions but regardless of what rollercoaster I may be on at any point in time, they are always there with open arms (sometimes literally) offering comfort or support when needed most - even if they don't understand what's happening or why! No matter how crazy things get though, somehow we always manage to laugh at ourselves too until we're crying tears of laughter instead!

You Got Big Battles to Concur
I know you're going through a lot right now. There's the recession, and the xenophobia, and energy crises, and unemployment, and corruption, —and crime. It seems like you have it all! But I have faith in you! You'll get through this.
So here's what I'm proposing: Let's continue to work together to fix our problems. Let's start with the unemployment crisis. There are too many people out of work in South Africa and this is impacting our economy and our society negatively. We need to find ways to bring more people into the workforce so that they can earn an income and contribute towards growing our economy rather than relying on government subsidies or charity handouts.
The dangers of having a very large number of unemployed youth is evident from the challenges we face as a country. We could start by looking at how we could make it easier for small businesses to grow into medium-sized businesses so that more people can find employment opportunities there instead of having to rely on big corporations as their only option for jobs, hence I am with you on this journey by walking the talk through investments I am making in business which contributes to creating employment. A mindset detox in our youth communities coupled with resources to kick-start a more successful path is important my South Africa, give this to your people.
The energy crisis is another big problem facing us today, especially as we move towards becoming a more digitally-led society. It’s important that we find a way of generating clean energy on a large scale so that we can reduce our reliance on fossil fuels and help protect the environment, that's the medium-long term goal, at the moment lest fix the current inefficiencies in the power generation space as this is having significant consequences on your ability to growth and strive, South Africa.
Conclusion
South Africa, even though you're not always at your best, I know that you're going to do beautifully in the end. I know that you'll come out of all of this a better place — and for me to be proud to call home.

1 年Beautifully written Katekani! You write from a place of hope and it's a refreshing perspective as it's very easy to point out the obvious negative things. I think micro-jobs and flex-jobs, are what our country needs right now. Every South African should be able to get up on any day to go to a job that will pay them minimum wage for a day's work. The youthful energies are left unchecked and unchallenged and this tresult in nefarious activities.

1 年Hello Ntutule, great to hear from you?? indeed the times South Africa is in right now is tough, remembering that we’ve been through worse and came out stronger in the past gives me hope about the future. The Gwara Gwara scenario where social inequality was at its highest while embodying a demoralised land of disorder and decay, most characterised by a steep decline in trust and belief among fellow South Africans, the state and social institutions is where we are finding ourselves right now. Its interesting to see that Eskom is making a way for SMMEs to start playing a pivotal role in this space and make it easy for them to do so as getting out of this will take more than the government, it needs all of us to intentionally contribute our time, money and energy to build a better South Africa and I’m fully committed irregardless of where I am in the world.
