A Love Letter to the Jobs I Left
My first job was at a grocery store called Genuardi's. I was the salad bar manager. It was a fun job at 16/17. My best friend worked at the Starbucks in Genuardi's. I learned teamwork and working with others.
My second job was a teaching assistant at NYU. I was an undergraduate teaching assistant for 14 classes. I taught my first class when I was a Sophomore. The entire class was Juniors. It gave me confidence to be brave and try new things.
My third job was an orientation leader. I was an orientation leader for 14 groups. There's nothing better than spending your summers in New York City with free housing! I learned how to lead. And that good leaders know when to listen.
My fourth job was at the largest Chinese IP law firm. This job lasted for 7 years. I had two excellent teachers, a trademark attorney and a patent attorney. I learned how to be meticulous and detail orientated.
My fifth job was at William and Mary Law. I worked for an admin professor, a criminal law professor, an environmental law professor, and a constitutional law professor. I learned how to be a lawyer.
My sixth job was at an agency. I was the comptroller. And yes... that is a real job. I learned how to manage a business, cashflow, and employees. Essentially, how to run a small business from scratch.
My current job is owning a digital marketing agency. I provide livelihoods for my employees. I learned to take care of other people.
There were externships, internships, etc in-between, but these 7 jobs taught me how to be a good boss. And for that I'm grateful.
