Valentine’s Day is around the corner and I cannot help but remember the month of Feb is 2014. I got a call, and a voice ushered whispering, “Is this Bhavish Ahuja, am I speaking to?”. Upon establishing it was me, she suggested her name was (not to mention), and she had seen one of my artworks somewhere on social media and that we have a common friend through whom she had taken my number.
Valentine’s Day was coming and she was having some misunderstandings with her fiancé then, husband today. It had come to a point where words couldn’t patch things up and she wanted to gift something unique that would express her feelings to him - Intact. Having browsed through all the shopping malls and gift shops, nothing could make her feel any "it" could have conveyed her emotions and fill up that void that has generated in last couple of months, back then. I was about to suggest her to gift him of any of my painting, which I had put up in galleries but then something just flashed through while I was having this chat with her. I, unintentionally, suggested her that I could create a story (Infostory that I do and you are familiar with) from your journey so far and how you see it in the future. It was different from the leadership Infostories or the ones I do to assist Corporate Communications today. I asked her to pen down her side of the story and future she was excited to have with him. She took a couple of days or may be three, post her working hours but she did.
Now, we met for a coffee in Gurgaon, Golf Course Extension road wasn’t developed as much. I took all my notes from her verbal/written version and came back. I insisted her not to gift him this, personally in-hand, rather I would get it delivered. I designed a red velvet case into which I placed this story, precisely inked on a fine fabric. It wasn’t a cushion cover or a table cloth or anything but just that piece of cloth with irregular corners, with a story on it. Got this delivered in his office, randomly at around 4'ish on a Wednesday afternoon.
It’s been 4 years and I visit this couple every now n then, pleased, proud and thankful, to see my work in their living area all framed up with similar looking red velvet frame.
Often times, Emotions need to be shared - explicitly - and when done so, with intent, brings about a feeling that someone cares and you can fight through this world as long as you have them my your side.
