Love is Good for Business

Love is Good for Business

Love is good... for business!

No not the romantic kind of love, but a caring, trusting, and empathetic kind of love. Over the years I have tried to create an intentional culture of love at Pink Stork.

People spend a lot of time at work or with their coworkers, sometimes more than they do with their families. In my opinion, that's a lot to ask from them and doesn't even include the actual "work" they are doing for the company. The environment that leaders provide for people to grow, learn, and create is a direct reflection of the culture of an organization. One of our core values at Pink Stork is GROW or DIE. Something that is not loved can NOT grow.

I have noticed a direct correlation between the way a leader cares for their employees, to how their employees care for their work, and their customers. Leading with care for the individual has always shown to benefit the team as a whole. A way I trust my team is to trust them to handle things they may have never worked on before. This gives them the confidence to complete the tasks. This has proven to me that my team is capable of BIG things, that sometimes even they weren't sure they could handle. It's the trust that you extend that will empower an employee to better themselves and live up to their full potential. It's the empathy and forgiveness that you give them that will make them strive to be better.

The one thing I have seen to be a nonnegotiable in work is the vulnerability that a leader shares is irreplaceable. Being relatable, approachable, and vulnerable with your team makes the workplace so much more comfortable for everyone. I often hear that the Pink Stork is not like a lot of other workplaces, that everyone seems to know about each other's lives and be involved. That is something that I have so intentionally cultivated, because we want to celebrate each other's lives, both in and out of the workplace, whether that's being here for 5 years or the celebration of a new member of Pink Stork with a baby shower. We work with each other and care for and celebrate each other.
