Just read an interesting piece in Prevention magazine that said walking around the house barefoot is not good for your feet. In fact, it can create problems.
Podiatrist Jackie Sutera, D.P.M. said that walking, standing for long periods, such as when cooking, or working out barefoot actually wears away the fat pads on your heels and balls of your feet because you don't have cushioning to protect you from hard surfaces like wood, tile, or concrete. Warning signs can include redness, pain and calluses.
This would also hold true to walking barefoot outside, which brings additional dangers like stepping on glass, sharp stones, pieces of metal and other items that can imbed within your foot sole.
Prevent discomfort and deterioration by wearing supportive sandals, slippers or shoes inside.
For many who love walking barefoot this could be a eye-opener. To those who choose not to walk barefoot, this is a justifiable reason. What do you think?
