Love for Feedback & Hate for the 360 Review

Love for Feedback & Hate for the 360 Review

Feedback.

When you read (hear) that word, are you thinking "criticism."

Most people do. It's funny though, we don't consider that feedback also opens us up for accolades. For hearing about a positive impact that we didn't consider before. Interesting; huh?

Whether it's feedback about improvements or about accolades, feedback is POWERFUL. It helps you constantly grow, shows you impact you may not have seen otherwise, and creates a team mindset of constant evolution.

Can you start training your brain around how to think about feedback differently?

Can you create a culture of feedback in your team that normalizes it in pursuit of continuous growth?

Yes.

The secret is simple.

  1. Do it even when you're scared.
  2. Do it in a specific way. (hint: we talk about how in the podcast)
  3. Normalize getting feedback even when you've hit a home run.

Now, while I love feedback. My loathing for the 360 review is also pretty strong - particularly for Comms. professionals. Why would I love feedback but hate 360s?

I share more in the latest episode of the Communications Business Advisor? podcast. Listen in and let me know what you think.

Episode Three of the Communications Business Advisor? Podcast: Love for Feedback & Hate for the 360

Anonymous 360 is the worst. It basically turns the employee into a pinata.
