Love comes from something beyond DNA: my adoption story

This Nike story and the story shared by Joe Quenqua, a leader and visionary, now the Chief Communications Officer at WW, and someone who embraces diversity and family, are so personal to me on so many levels.

Not only because of my own adoption story (that would never would have been if not for the financial support of my father's benevolent boss), but how it has changed the lives of the next generation of my own family. My daughter met and married an amazing man, Cody Sirgey, whose life was also changed by adoption, after nine years in foster care. They are now the parents of two beautiful children, Emma and Hannah.  

We must realize that love is love. That family is family. Those that will support, love, and trust you in every way. To deny anyone that opportunity is to deny our future generations of what Cody and I have experienced in our personal journeys. The opportunity that Joe and his husband can now give to their three daughters. The opportunity that my daughter Lizzy and Cody now have and can share with their daughters. The love that comes from something beyond DNA.

Starting January 1st of 2020, WW will offer full-time employees new and increased benefits to support diverse ways of expanding a family. This will include coverage for infertility treatment, fertility preservation, adoption and surrogacy. Families come together in a myriad of ways and WW wants to provide assistance for all of these options.  

It is love that transcends all and creates families of the most special kind. I'm so thrilled that companies like WW and Nike and Disney are supporting the future, our future, and all generations to come.
