Love And Ambition.

When we think about love, it’s often painted as a dreamy, emotional escape. But true love—real, deep love—is something much more profound.

Paulo Coelho’s The Alchemist gives us a beautiful example of this through the relationship between Santiago and Fatima. In the story, Santiago is on a journey to find his "Personal Legend," his life's ultimate purpose. Along the way, he meets Fatima, a woman who lives in the desert, and he falls in love with her.

At one point he almost gives up on his journey as he feels Fatima is far more important than the treasure he is looking for. Fatima tells him this “…I want you to continue toward your goal. If you have to wait until the war is over, then wait, but if you have to go before then, go in pursuit of your dream…If I’m really a part of your dream, you’ll come back one day.”

True love

?isn’t possessive.

?It doesn’t hold you back.

?It doesn’t ask you to give up your dreams or shrink your ambitions.

Fatima doesn’t demand that Santiago stay with her and abandon his quest. She encourages him to go and find his treasure because she understands that for their love to be meaningful, Santiago must fulfill his destiny. In return, Santiago’s love for Fatima fuels his determination to return to her, having become the best version of himself.

In many ways, love is what fuels Santiago through the challenges and hardships he faces. Fatima embodies unconditional support, showing us that true love helps us stand tall and pursue our dreams, no matter how difficult the journey may be.
