This last weekend, I finally saw Suffs, a Broadway show by Shaina Taub that tells the story of the women's suffragist movement focusing on the events leading up to the passage of the 19th Amendment, which granted women the right to vote.

The show highlights key figures in the suffrage movement, such as Alice Paul, Carrie Chapman Catt, Ida B. Wells, and others, portraying their struggles, strategies, and the tensions within the movement. The musical blends historical drama with modern musical elements, using a diverse cast and contemporary music styles to bring the story to life.

Suffs has been praised for its engaging storytelling, strong performances, and its ability to connect the historical fight for women's rights with ongoing struggles for equality today. The show emphasizes themes of perseverance, activism, and the power of collective action in the face of adversity.

Suffs took the TONYs by storm this year, winning both Best Original Score and Best Book of a Musical. Creator Shaina Taub also stars in the show, playing Alice Paul.

There's a moment in Suffs that got me thinking about the work I do every day with thought leaders, authors, and business owners. Alice Paul finds herself at odds with Carrie Chapman Catt and other old-guard suffragists around the start of World War I. She's encouraged to adopt a more palatable platform to appeal to the policymakers and the current president, but she refuses. She holds steady with her message, at times over the course of months and years. One song depicts a silent protest held over the brutal winter months in front of the White House that started with a dozen women and ended up with thousands.

The everyday application that came to mind: AI.

Stay with me. As business owners, AI is becoming more and more prevalent by the day. It's now easier than ever to make a video reel, or spin up a LinkedIn Newsletter in ChatGPT. This results in more noise than ever on the online platforms, and it can be tempting to join the fray.

But the truth is that it's more important than ever to stay the course and to commit to the messaging and style that makes you who you are and your business unique, because that's going to be what cuts through the noise. It's going to be those videos that come across with a personal touch, and the newsletters that have detail, style, and personality.

That's not to say that AI isn't still a powerful tool - I use it in my business, too, as a way to enhance the human touch of what my clients and I can do. But in the face of so much AI-generated content, a great strategy that showcases what makes your business and brand unique is what's going to get you noticed.
