Lotus Driving Academy reopens at Norfolk headquarters

Lotus has relaunched its UK Driving Academy, allowing drivers to take the British manufacturer’s sports cars to the limit on track

After initially opening in 1999 at the Lotus headquarters in Hethel, the academy was shut down in October last year. Lotus put this down to high demand for classes clashing with new car development on the track. With Lotus now being owned by Chinese company Geely, the decision has been reversed.

Automotive News Europe reported in June that the owner of Geely, Li Shufu, was considering building Lotus cars in China.

Jean-Marc Gales, CEO of Group Lotus, said: “Lotus Driving Academies around the world are hugely popular, giving hundreds of people the opportunity to enjoy the pure driving experience of a Lotus sports car in a high-octane environment.

“This popularity has meant that we already have official Lotus Driving Academies in Malaysia, the USA and France.”

The entry-level package, called Scare Yourself Sensible, costs ￡119 and includes track time in an Elise with a professional instructor.

Also available are ‘licence days’, which are made up of Bronze, Silver and Gold levels depending on the advanced driving skills taught in each.

Factory tours are also included in some packages, as well as high-speed demonstration laps with pro drivers.
