Lotte comes from Marburg in the German State of Hessen, where she currently attends the 12th grade at the Martin Luther school. As part of a career orientation programme, she joined STAT-UP for a two-week student internship. At school, Lotte took part in advanced courses in mathematics and art. In the future, she would like to work in these fields. In her spare time, she likes to paint, draw and read. For her, it is a possibility to relieve stress and practice focusing on only one thing. ?
What is your job at STAT-UP?
Up to now, my role included designing visuals for marketing purposes and supporting the STAT-UP Social Media team in their daily tasks. My next task is to support the team with the launch of the new STAT-UP website and to do some research for blog articles.
Could you tell us about one of the projects that you are working on at STAT-UP?
At the moment, I am working on the EMOS webinar project. The European Master in Official Statistics (EMOS) is a network of Master programmes providing post-graduate education in the area of official statistics at the European level. The new EMOS webinar series, which started in November 2022, is a collaboration of the statistical office of the European Union (Eurostat) and the Department of Economics and Management of the University of Pisa together with STAT-UP. Its aim is to provide open, free, and interactive webinars to everyone interested. During these webinars, participants also have the opportunity to discuss their questions with renowned experts. STAT-UP’s role includes organising, streaming, and promoting the webinars. In this context, I supported the team to design the visuals for promotional purposes.

What makes the project interesting and what are the challenges?
For me, the process of designing the visuals is very exciting. It is fun to see how you can design a professional looking visual by following a template, modifying it, and keeping the original concept in mind. However, the design process sometimes gets difficult. At this point, it can be helpful to take a short break. Afterwards, the visual can be seen from a different point of view and the task can be finished with renewed effort.
Finally, what makes STAT-UP special?
All my colleagues are very nice to me and although I have very little work experience, they always help me with great patience. Wherever I need it, there is always someone who is happy to support me. STAT-UP is also positioned very broadly, both in terms of its field of business activity and its staff, which impresses me. Moreover, I think it is great that I was directly given responsibility.
