A lot to be thankful for
Jim Nussle
Chief Executive Officer, AMERICA’S CREDIT UNIONS. Our mission is to advocate for and advance an environment where credit unions thrive.
I’m thankful to be part of a movement that does so much good for so many.
I’m thankful for your support of America’s Credit Unions and belief in this new organization.
I’m thankful for credit union members and how the credit union difference changes lives.
And I’m thankful for leaders like you who make our movement a powerful force through your passion, creativity, and dedication. It’s an honor to work alongside you.
There’s lots to do before the end of the year, and even more on our plate for 2024 and beyond. I hope you take the time to focus on family, friends, and re-energizing for the days and weeks ahead.
Happy Thanksgiving. ?
CFPB overreach continues to harm consumers
CUNA Deputy Chief Advocacy Officer Jason Stverak hit the nail on the head when he wrote in American Banker that the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s (CFPB) consistent failure to consider the full impact of its rules is harming the very consumers the bureau is tasked to help. Its process continually includes credit unions in a one-size-fits-all approach that ultimately makes financial services harder to access. CUNA, Leagues, and credit unions continue to push back against this overreach, and we couldn’t do it without you.

No ‘junk’ in overdraft fees
Shout out to Diana Dykstra, president/CEO of the California and Nevada Credit Union Leagues, for her excellent post on the truth behind credit union overdraft fees. Despite a lot of misleading talk of “junk fees,” Diana says credit unions’ fundamental difference from for-profit institutions means we don’t charge “junk fees.” Services—including overdraft protection—are designed to meet members’ needs however they see fit, and as Diana said, we’ll keep prioritizing the financial well-being of our members and communities.
