Lost Wallet, Found Kindness...

Lost Wallet, Found Kindness...

  1. This Week's Encouragement:

In true Leo fashion, I’m still celebrating my birthday—because why limit the fun to just one day?

This year, I received an unexpected gift that took the cake: a lesson in radical kindness.

On my birthday, I was fully engrossed in the festivities (and a bit of history being made during the DNC) when I realized my wallet had pulled a disappearing act. Little did I know, my wallet had embarked on an adventure of its own—getting hit by a car and scattering my personal effects across the street.

But here’s where the magic happened: a wonderful family discovered the remnants of my wallet in front of a restaurant. Instead of ignoring it, they gathered every little piece and went on a full-scale mission to find me. At 8 PM, I got a voicemail and text from a complete stranger who took the time to reunite me with my runaway wallet.

Not only did they return it—they drove it to me, handed it over with a bow, and wished me a Happy Birthday. This act of kindness has been the perfect start to my “New Year” (because birthdays are like New Year’s, right?).

This experience has inspired me to pay it forward with kindness in unique and thoughtful ways. And now, I’m challenging you to do the same. Whether it’s a small gesture or a grand one, show kindness to yourself, your colleagues, friends, and family. Kindness costs nothing but can leave a lasting impact.

A week later, I’m still talking about it—and I have a feeling the ripple effects of this kindness will carry on for months to come.

So, what’s your act of kindness going to be this week?

2. Reading Recommendation: The Power of Kindness: Why Empathy Is Essential in Everyday Life by Dr. Brian Goldman

Dr. Brian Goldman, a veteran emergency room physician, has spent his career saving lives—setting broken bones, curing pneumonia, and pulling people back from the brink of disaster. But after years of high-stress work, he found himself questioning something deeper: Was he still the caring doctor he once believed himself to be?

In The Power of Kindness, Goldman steps out of the ER and embarks on a personal journey to rediscover his lost compassion. He explores what kindness truly looks like, both within himself and in the world around him.

This powerful and engaging book takes us far beyond the walls of the hospital, delving into why kindness is essential to our existence. It’s a compelling reminder that no matter our profession or daily challenges, kindness is a vital force that can heal us all.

3. Thought Exercise: The Kindness Audit

This week, I challenge you to conduct a quick “Kindness Audit.” It’s a simple, yet powerful exercise to heighten your awareness of kindness in your life.

  1. Recall and Reflect: Think back to the last time someone showed you kindness. What did they do, and how did it make you feel? Then, consider the last time you were kind to someone else. How did it impact them and you?
  2. Notice and Note: For the next 24 hours, consciously notice every act of kindness—both given and received. At the end of the day, jot down what you observed. Did this awareness shift your perspective?
  3. Reflect: What did you learn from this audit? Did it make you feel more connected or appreciative?

Give it a try—you might be surprised by what you discover!

4. Quote:

"Carry out a random act of kindness, with no expectation of reward, safe in the knowledge that one day someone might do the same for you." — Princess Diana
