Lost in the Search

With so many non-branded hotels and room-only accommodation now listed on OTAs, traditional lists of properties have lost much of their usefulness. The large volume of accommodations, ranging from one-room Airbnbs to budget studios, means it’s nearly impossible for travelers to find the lists of any use.

Instead, filters and maps are becoming the real tools travelers use to decide where to stay. When a website doesn’t clearly distinguish a 4-star hotel from a 4-keys property, location, specialization, and inclusiveness are now key. Guests want to find places that meet specific needs, like accessibility, amenities, or particular room types.

As a hotelier or host, making sure all relevant filters are activated (like pet-friendliness, accessibility features, or room configurations) is more crucial than ever. Location matters, too. If your listing is on the beach, near city landmarks, or offers unique views, highlight it with clear, accurate information on the map.

In this crowded online space, effective filtering and accurate positioning can set you apart. Providing the right details upfront means guests can find you quickly, even if they have thousands of other options to choose from.

It's just like the new trend of recruiting cheap labor from third countries, with no knowledge of the Greek language, culture, or traditions. Instead of recognizing the value of their Greek employees—showing them respect, loyalty, and the true meaning of Filoxenia by offering a well-deserved salary raise—hoteliers are opting for cheaper alternatives. Sooner or later, the consequences will become evident, and they will be deeply disappointed in the impact on our vital industry.
