Lost Ones

The month has barely begun and if I could give August a theme it would be feedback and firing. We've had to let go of team members and clients, and have hard conversations around issues that have gone on too long without addressing. It comes with the territory but it never feels easy.

Overall, even with the ups and downs, 2024 has been good to me. We've been getting tighter on who we serve at Little Fish Accounting , and I launched Build to Enough - a new company aimed at firm owners growing successfully with intention. It's exciting and exhausting, but I'm loving it.

As I look toward the second half of the year, I want to avoid repeating earlier mistakes. It won't be easy, but here's what I'm focusing on:

  • Let go fast: When I trust my gut, I know when it's time to release something or someone. As a better leader, I need to be clear to be kind. This means not keeping people who aren't a good fit and empowering others to ask for what they need to excel. (?? People)
  • Stay creative: I have SO many ideas about serving our clients deeper v. wider, and sometimes I ignore them to focus on what's at hand. I'm realizing these ideas are opportunities to do things differently and see what works. (?? Strategy)
  • Money watch: This year has been investment-heavy, with higher expenses than in prior years. Now it's time to evaluate the ROI on our spending. If we're not seeing expected results, it's time to cut costs. (?? Profit Margins)

While every day offers a chance for change, this moment feels fitting to step back and assess if where I am aligns with where I want to be.

After all, I'm #buildingtoenough too ??

This Week's Updates

???On the Pod

It's already half past the year. Are you ready to turn yours around?

In the latest Build to Enough episode, I'm breaking down those essential benchmarks and KPIs you need to keep an eye on, talking profit margins (because we know that is NOT the same number as revenue), and giving you the lowdown on pricing strategies that actually work.

This isn't about endless expansion – it's about scaling at your own pace and building the business that fits YOUR life. So grab your coffee, hit play, and let's make the rest of this year count!

??? Tool of the Week

This week's tool is Ignition . Not just because they're sponsoring this podcast series (which we appreciate). I’m having entrepreneurial seizures over here while reading through today’s newsletter topics and now, listening to Episode 130 of your Build to Enough podcast: Turning H2 into Success for Firm Owners: Financial Health [Part 1 of 4] because you are speaking my language!!! One thing keeps going through my mind related to the name of your Build to Enough podcast, though: “How much is enough???” ??, yes, I know that’s a topic for an entire newsletter and podcast episode (or mini-series)!
