Lost & Found Resources
Have you ever lost something incredibly important to you? The moment you realize it’s gone, your heart races, your stomach churns. You know how much it meant to you and now it’s gone. You search everywhere, ask everyone for help, but it’s nowhere to be found. It’s gone.
But what if there’s a “lost and found”? You rush to it, and there it is. A wave of relief washes over you as you realize what you almost lost. You appreciate it now more than ever.
We can approach tech operations in the same way. We can find things quickly. Perhaps something that will save the company millions of dollars.
With today’s technology, AI, and advanced business intelligence, we have the power to integrate and automate systems that streamline processes and drive operational excellence. In other words, we can find what we need quickly and efficiently.
In the past, I developed a dashboard to transform how we tracked key metrics like billability and profitability across the organization. We built a Power BI dashboard that visualized essential data: KPIs, revenue, profit margins, customer metrics, win-loss ratios, sales trends, and billable hours. By automating the collection and communication of these metrics, we boosted billability by approximately 25%. The dashboard empowered us to prioritize sales opportunities more strategically, focusing on the most promising prospects.
Before we built this dashboard, we knew billability was low, but we had no clear way to address something that wasn’t defined. We also knew that our methodology of selecting the sales opportunities to chase wasn't as effective as it should be given our limited resources.
What we needed first was visibility. Next, we needed a method to communicate the data effectively. Finally, we needed a plan to take action. By leveraging technology, we defined, created, and communicated financial metrics in an easy-to-use dashboard. We set targets for each metric. The billability numbers reached their target goals, and the sales opportunities were selected to achieve higher win-rates based on prior statistics.
Ultimately, we found what was once lost.
