Losing Sight

Losing Sight

The Moment of Change

It was a fairly ordinary day, well, except for the slight blur in my right eye. I had passed it off as a possible side effect after a recent dental visit. So, I made an appointment with my optometrist. When the appointment day came the blur was now over a third of my vision in my dominant eye. The optometrist diagnosed me with a branch retinal vein occlusion (BRVO), a condition where a blockage in the retinal vein causes blood to spill into the retina, leading to swelling and obstructed central vision. This medical event was not just a wake-up call on my state of health but also a profound moment of reflection on the fragility and preciousness of sight.

Lifestyle on the Line

The diagnosis spoke volumes about my lifestyle and habits, which now stand on the brink of necessary change. My diet and exercise routines are set for a complete overhaul. The quiet acceptance of a high-stress life is no longer tenable. It’s clear that my media consumption, both social and mainstream, needs thoughtful curation. Perhaps the most daunting is the prospect of a career change amidst financial constraints, driven by the need to escape the clutches of a stress-laden profession.

Gratitude Amidst Loss

In the face of potential vision loss, I find myself enveloped in gratitude. I’ve been fortunate to witness wonders that many may never see in their lifetimes. While I yearn to maintain my sight, I am deeply thankful for the experiences and opportunities that have enriched my life thus far.

A Clearer Future

Despite the occlusion of my eyesight, my vision for the future has never been clearer. I am hopeful that this challenge marks the beginning of a journey filled with opportunities I had never imagined. It’s a chance to see the world through a new lens, to prioritize health and well-being, and to embrace a life less ordinary.
