In defence of protecting the existence of the Blue Whales, the developers of the game define the extinction of humans as an only option. The Blue Whale challenge manipulates the psychology of participants by challenging their guts, compelling them to race against self by overcoming their inmost fears. A report published by the Russian media agency stated that the whole plot of the Blue Whale is a hoax, while the other reports claim that it is a part of new terrorist activity that seeks use of no weapon but digital technology in order to terminate the human kind.

The Blue Whale Challenge came into attention during the early days of summer, when two Russian teen girls committed suicide. The news of their suicide was spread across through the status that they had uploaded on social media.
