Los Angeles Surge Hospital Reflections

With the Los Angeles Surge Hospital closing its doors last Friday, I would like to share with you the rich lessons in commitment, teamwork, and unity we experienced during our time there. 

In March, the Governor of California and the mayor of Los Angeles ordered a COVID-19 surge hospital to be created. Our biomedical team was chosen to work alongside Kaiser Permanente, Dignity Health and many other leading vendors in healthcare. In just seven days—starting from scratch—we set up an entire ICU department with fully functional biomedical equipment at the ready. The Los Angeles Surge Hospital was born and began taking in COVID-19 patients the following Monday. 

Our team worked relentlessly alongside a brilliant team of Doctors, Nurses, Engineers, Technicians, and many other committed Healthcare professionals. Each day, the highest integrity was put into our work and productivity. Most inspiring was the collaboration with the selfless Doctors volunteering for this cause and the nurses going above and beyond their expected duties. Every patient received was attended to with the highest quality of care, from the expertise of the knowledgeable Doctors, the attentiveness of the diligent nurses, to the state-of-the-art biomedical equipment provided, and to the compassion of the overall community within the Surge hospital. 

When talented individuals combine their best efforts toward the vision of saving lives and operate as one determined team, the most difficult of times become the most rewarding professional and personal experiences to remember. Saving lives and making a concrete difference is part of our mission statement which we continually strive for. We are honored to have taken part in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic at the Los Angeles Surge Hospital and are always ready to mobilize our technicians whenever help is called!
