Lorraine’s Premium BBQ Sauces Owner Reveals Why He’s Really In The Entrepreneurial Space
Larry Crockett is on a mission to help the Black community and all races who purchase his Lorraine’s Premium BBQ Sauces with a healthier whole food option to pair with their meats and vegetables. Inspired by his 91-year-old mother Lorraine, Crockett is proud to have named his business after his mother.?
We sat down with Larry Crockett to learn more about his Michigan-based brand and the expansion efforts currently underway to reach new markets.?
We’ve seen and read a great deal about the healthier option label you are proudly promoting for Lorraine’s sauces. Why are you dedicated to this niche for your business?
I am very alarmed by the current health statistics for the Black community with such large numbers of our brothers and sisters suffering from heart disease, high blood pressure and diabetes. Much of this is due to the food selections we make. I am determined that Lorraine’s will not add to these challenges but help our customers make a healthier lifestyle for themselves and their family members. None of our sauces contain MSG. None of our ingredients are genetically modified and all our ingredients are organic.??

So tell us what’s in these sauces as much as you can without revealing the secret recipe. And please explain the four varieties that you offer?
My four varieties are Original, Sweet & Smokey, Asian, and Southwest Chipotle Kick.? The main ingredient is love, and the passion I have for seeing someone’s joy after tasting the palette orchestra that I create.? I don’t use high fructose corn syrup.? Various fruits serve as the base of all my sauces because your body processes it better and the flavor produced is amazing.? I replaced the junk with organic ingredients to help us be the healthiest versions of ourselves.? ? The Original is a hearty standalone sauce for those who want a more traditional flavor.? However, the Sweet & Smokey is as titled, sweeter and smokier. It’s almost as if the smoke comes up and hugs you.? The Asian sauce was inspired by my travels in Japan, where I tried to recreate the poignant herbs and seasonings.? The Southwest Chipotle Kick is reminiscent of foods from New Mexico and Arizona, which is where the kick comes from.??????

Tell us more about this mother's love and inspiration.
Growing up my mother was a nurse.? From a young age, she was adamant on us being able to wash, clean, cook and sew.? I was the youngest of my siblings, so naturally I was a mama’s boy.? I loved hanging out with her in the kitchen, which is how I learned how to work my way around the stove.? My father passed away when I was sixteen, leaving me to take over as grill master.? I put the love and passion that my mom gave me in each bottle.? It’s my way of honoring her while she’s still here.?????
?
What’s next for Lorraine’s BBQ Sauces? Are you more focused on wholesaling in stores nationwide or online sales? ?
?I’m always looking to acquire more stores to gain traction for more sales and name recognition.? The online sales will come as the brand grows, plus I'm always on the move putting myself and my sauces out there whenever and wherever I can.? You have to be diligent, faith without work is dead.? I’m also working on expanding my bbq umbrella to include hot sauce, rubs, marinades and injections.???
