The Lord’s Purpose Prevails

The Lord’s Purpose Prevails

"Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the LORD’s purpose that prevails." - Proverbs 19:21 (NIV)

It’s a common human inclination to become deeply attached to our personal plans, often getting blinded by our own agendas which don’t always lead to the best outcomes. Fortunately, we are reassured by the sovereignty of God—His purpose always prevails.

God knows what is best for us, much better than we could ever understand on our own. And most importantly, and one of the most difficult things to accept is that His plans are not necessarily for our immediate comfort but to mold our character for His glory. This process prepares us for eternity. When we look back on our past, it becomes clear how God has used even our mistakes to fulfill His purpose for us.

Keeping eternity in mind is very important because it helps us view our mistakes and successes through a different lens—a perspective that shifts our focus from our many selfish plans to God’s eternal purpose. In this perspective, we learn to prioritize our spiritual and character growth over temporary pleasures or achievements.

Replacing our plans with God's plan requires letting go. Giving up our personal desires in favor of what He knows is better for us—this is ultimately more fulfilling. This surrender, though often difficult, leads us to experience the great joy of being aligned with His purpose.
