LORD SHOW ME MERCY
Introduction:
Good morning/afternoon/evening, beloved. Today, I want to talk to you about mercy, one of the most beautiful attributes of our Lord. Mercy, a gift freely given, is something we desperately need in our lives. Let's explore what it means to seek mercy from the Lord.
Scripture Reading: Psalm 51:1-2 (NIV)
"Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions. Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin."
1. Understanding Mercy:
- Ephesians 2:4 (NIV): "But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy..."
- Mercy is not getting what we deserve. It's the loving kindness of God in action.
- In our sinful state, we deserve punishment, yet God, in His mercy, offers us forgiveness instead.
- Mercy is an expression of God's love and compassion towards us, His children.
2. The Need for Mercy:
- Romans 3:23 (NIV): "for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,"
- Our sins separate us from God, creating a gap that can only be bridged by His mercy.
- Without God's mercy, we are lost and without hope.
3. Seeking Mercy:
- Psalm 51:1-2 (NIV): "Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions. Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin."
- To receive God's mercy, we must acknowledge our need for it.
- We must come before the Lord with humility, repentance, and a contrite heart.
- Like the psalmist, we must cry out, "Have mercy on me, O God."
4. The Assurance of Mercy:
- 1 John 1:9 (NIV): "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness."
- The good news is that God is rich in mercy.
- His mercy endures forever (**Psalm 136:1**).
- When we genuinely repent and seek His forgiveness, God is faithful and just to forgive us our sins.
Conclusion:
As we reflect on God's mercy, let us remember that it is available to all who call upon Him. No matter how far we've strayed or how big our mistakes may seem, God's mercy is greater. Let us, therefore, approach the throne of grace with confidence, knowing that in His mercy, we will find forgiveness, redemption, and restoration. Amen.
