Looping back... what I've learned so far

Looping back... what I've learned so far

It’s been four years since my journey with Loop Media started and this platform has proven to be a useful outlet for the random musings that enter my head around media and marketing.?As we launch our new brand and office, I though it worthwhile to note down a few things I’ve learned in my four years, for whatever value they may bring, thanks for reading.

·????????Be proud of what you do

Early on when meeting with prospective clients & publishers I was guilty of phrases like “we’re a small agency, you wouldn’t know us” and when complimented on work we were too quick to dismiss or bat away the compliment.?I have since learned to stand up proudly about who we are, what we do and especially who we do it for.

·????????Imposter syndrome

I think many professionals have suffered from this at some point.?For me it was never a major problem but there are days where you doubt yourself.?Having a strong network of people and mentors to provide guidance has been invaluable for me.?Many within the industry and some external to the industry.?I can’t thank those people enough for their council over the years.

·????????Engage with as many people as you can

When I opened the doors, I was amazed at the people and opportunities that presented themselves.?The Rebound, our tech/business show, developed by Steve Sammartino and Tommy McCubbin was conceived over a coffee and produced and aired all under strict lockdown conditions.?It was my first foray in to content and amongst the hardest and most rewarding things we’ve done.?Just talking to other people has opened doors for us in ways unimaginable.

·????????Embracing ‘the now’ but be aware of myopia

In the early days it was a case of saying ‘yes’ to everything and I wouldn’t discourage that.?Having said that, it’s critical to sit back periodically and review your strategy.?I was guilty of being tactically led from a short term need to say “yes” at the expense of our overall strategy as a business and the resources available to execute the work.?I’ve since learned to put time in to ensure everything we do fits the profile of where we want to get to and makes sense for us as a business.

·????????The friends you meet along the way…

Someone once told me that you do business with people, not products and whilst it’s simplistic and not all encompassing the point he was trying to make is that relationships carry a disproportionate amount of weight when it comes to choosing what we buy and why.?When COVID hit and the world stood still for a moment, I had a phone call of support from someone that has stayed with me ever since.?The empathy and support with which the call was delivered left a lasting impression.?The number of talented, intelligent people I have worked these last four years across suppliers, clients and partners has been so rewarding.?

·????????Have fun

The brands we’ve worked with including Tradie, Showpo and others have instilled a sense of fun in to the work.?These are some of the hardest working people I have met but they embrace the fun side of the job and it’s been a constant reminder for me to enjoy what we are doing.?It’s an adage but I have tried to approach work with a mindset of “things are never as good or as bad they seem” and this has worked to keep us level when things are going well and provide perspective on the tougher times.

I’m extremely proud of the last four years and the new brand we’re launching.? Australian businesses are a passion of mine and I hope to assist many more of them in the years to come.?I’ve had so much help along the way and want to continue to pay it forward so hit me up any time.?To all of our suppliers & clients, thank you for your ongoing support.?Onwards and upwards.
