The Looming Financial Literacy Crisis

Almost a year and a half ago, I was sitting on a plane--flying back from Europe. During this time alone with my thoughts I began to think about my life's purpose and the passions that drive my behavior. I made a list of major, global issues that I believed could be influenced by my efforts. The ones that stood out to me the most were 1) Nearly 1 billion people in the world do not have access to electricity, 2) Approximately 3.5 billion adults globally, lack an understanding of basic financial concepts. The first problem related to electricity excited me because of my position as a CFO in renewable energy. However, the second issue involving financial literacy, struck me hard and really resonated with me.

I am so lucky to work with so many business leaders. Their intelligence, entrepreneurial spirits, and drive for excellence inspires me. I have a deep respect for so many men and women who have influenced my life. What troubles me though is the degree of financial literacy within the organizations that I work with. Understanding the STORY behind the numbers and then taking decisive action to drive greater value is much more than increasing a company's bottom line. In fact, financial literacy is about elevating lives through better business. That's my purpose in life--to elevate lives through business, that's what truly feeds my passions.

To help make an impact on the world--not just with business leaders but with the rising generation, I am launching two new things. First, a new podcast call Boosting Your Financial IQ, which can be found wherever you find your favorite podcasts. Second, I will be dropping a new video to YouTube called the same thing--Boosting Your Financial IQ each week.
