There are two different viewpoints regarding this in society. One group will say "no no looks are not important, it's what inside, the mind that matters" and other group will say "looks are primary and very important and what looks good, sells good". What is the truth ? How in reality the world works ? Answer to this just a single sentence I would say:
BOTH THE VIEWPOINTS ARE WRONG INDIVIDUALLY AND RIGHT PARTIALLY.
Let me explain.
Human beings are both 'eye' and 'mind' creature that is to say they are both 'visual beings' and 'thoughtful beings'. And humans as we all know are the most 'social animals' amongst all the species on earth, so large part of humans existence that is protection and survival depends on interpersonal interactions, whether it's food or security. Also largely human's success also depends on interpersonal success with other beings in the society.
And in interpersonal interactions 'Looks' and 'Appearances' plays an important role. But that doesn't mean that looks are more important than what's in your mind. In fact a smart and intelligent mind can easily win over 'good looks and average mind'. As you can very well make out in day to day life, going to a showroom to buy new shoes- an average looking salesman with a great smile and very helpful nature will attract you more than a handsome looking salesman standing with an attitude-- you'll end up buying from this average looking salesman, here an average looking salesman out-competed the handsome salesmen with his intelligent mind.
Then next question which you'll likely ask is if all it matters is 'smart mind' then why focus on looks, dressing, personality etc ?
Because 1st impressions matter, if one is dressed up well, having fit and well kept body, nice hairstyle and shoes, he or she will attract others towards them (and individual's success depends on interpersonal interactions)- this will ease the start of conversations- and starting from there mind will take the baton and lead. Again in our salesmen scenario- a well dressed, right posture, good personality avg. looking salesmen will sell more than good looking salesmen who is poorly dressed with wrong posture and loose body language.
One more point to be mentioned here is that 'looks are pliable' meaning it can be changed, even if one's face is genetically not gifted; he or she by learning how to dress smart, developing fit and attractive body, proper mannerisms, right body language and effective conversations can easily out-smart and win over 'genetically good looking individuals' .
There is no substitute to developing a smart and well informed mind but one’s outlook and dressing makes social tasks much much easier.
Let's work towards making our participants smart and attractive not only with minds but with dressing, body language and posture, fitness, hairstyle and shoes as well!
Let's transform our clients lives by making them feel good/in fact 'best' about themselves.
Crafting value-for-money solutions in sales, solution alignment, and client management. Delivering exceptional support & building deep relationships. Ensuring retention with ingenuity & empathy.
4 年In general scenario Initially the looks and the appearance may matter, yes, but eventually they dont. Once we know about the content of a person the looks don't matter. In due course of time with experience of life we learn to look for the content of person and then looks doesn't matter at all. The 2 point of views are actually between the people who have learnt with their experience and the ones who still have to learn.
