Looking For Volunteers That Want To Simple Things To Help Poverty In Classrooms
Phillip Mahealani Wong
President at Childrens Compassion Association International
I'm looking for some sincere volunteers that want to learn how to do some simple things from their homes to help kids education that live in poverty. The photos I use are for your understanding to think with me on your ideas of simple things you would like to do to help these children. In the photo above you will note most of the learning material as on this blackboard is prepared for by hand of teachers and class assistants for children.
Many here where we live are very knowledgeable about what these children need to prepare for higher learning. There are no children's books or learning resources as professional printed banners and posters for learning as you would see walking into our classrooms. The poverty levels in these areas are too low for parents to afford pencils, writing paper, crayons, coloring books and other learning tools that would enhance children's learning. Most learning tools needed for the children are provided by the teachers with their very limited incomes. If you would walk into one of these classrooms knowing the abundance of things we have one of the first questions on your mind would be, "How do these children prepare for higher learning?"
If you walked into these classrooms what simple things would you want to do from where you live to help children in these conditions? The backpacks are donated by if you will do a survey as we have done and look inside the backpacks many are empty. No books and no libraries.
So how do teachers teach children in poverty when there are very limited learning resources? Yes, I think it's a good idea to gather soil, put a few earthworms in it, and show teenagers in a classroom how earthworms work the soil but what about school rooms after school rooms with little or no books? This is an easy project to think about simple things to help children with the abundance of items they can use we discard.
If you look at the learning resources children in these conditions have to learn with just look around in your homes and the stores you shop for school supplies. What simple thing would you like to do each week to help kids in poverty conditions enhance their learning to live better quality lives?
What would you think of to fill empty school libraries with to enhance children's learning. Many homes would love to have your old dictionaries and reference books. Parents and teachers we have shared educational resources and books with are realizing children's grades are soaring. One initial question we need to answer for you is "how do you get the items to many children in poverty areas?" What do you need to do to make sure your efforts get to the children? We could teach you that.
Many have asked where are these children. Please allow me to make a historical reference. Many of these children are descendants of those General Douglas McArthur depended on to fight with his armies in the support and march for freedom.
History tells us many of the ancestors of these children gave their lives in compassion to share and feed our wounded and starving men of Bataan (1942). Many of these children's ancestors lost their lives helping to free our POWs that were facing severe atrocities in crude enemy prison camps.
Now that I have made the association of where these children are what simple things would you like to do each week to help their learning? What would you like to do? Share a little nonperishable foods to feed them in their classrooms to address malnourishment? Gather a few boxes of crayons on sale at your local store? Maybe there are some pencils, art kits, and learning materials for kids that have been around the home for years. Or would you like to initiate a project to pay for the shipping of one box to help children in poverty classrooms? No one is too far away to help children's learning in these conditions. It doesn't matter where you live we can show you how your simple efforts can be of assistance.
If you want to do some simple things each week to help kids in poverty classrooms it is worth a phone call to 808 224 0841 and ask, "What simple things can I do to help them?" Lessons to help kids in poverty conditions are all free. All volunteer work to help children's learning is done from the heart. Thanks for thinking about kids and their educational needs.
