No. Looking slick isn't enough, sorry

No. Looking slick isn't enough, sorry

In this small series I try to make you think about the state of your mobile app. How healthy is it? And assuming you want to win the race, what can you do to make sure you don’t crash? In this edition, I like to zoom in on the (ongoing) design of your product.

Comfort - Can design add value?

I sometimes bump into people who don’t value design and feel their app “already looks nice” and does the job. Let's get this straight - good design is so much more than just making your app look nice. When done well, design integrates with all parts of your business to solidify your product offering and enables you to deliver what customers want. Design can help your customers to navigate through the various touchpoints of your service or app with ease and delights them with experiences that surpass their expectations. We want to make sure they walk away with the warm fuzzies that will make them come back and use it next time.

I often work with clients who have in-house designers and I love the experience they bring to the table. However, sometimes they can be too close to the product because. In agile product development, it's hard to take a step back and get a fresh perspective to see where the gaps are. It is important, or perhaps even vital, to be able to draw on a team of other thinkers (don’t necessarily need to be designers) with a myriad of backgrounds capable of lifting your product experience to the next level. So you can identify the quick wins needed to make your product competitive and give you some tips on key strategies to beat the market going forward.
