Looking Out

Is the self “That which watches” or “That which is being watched?”
It’s one of the Great Questions.
Most of us spend our lifetime living “trapped in the box of our awareness” with the Monkeys, the Elephant, the Mirror, the Voices, the High School Friends, our Parent’s Judgements, our Sibling’s Criticisms and our Mate’s Evaluations. It’s a prison of endless, unimaginable abrasion. Being reduced to mere elements.
But all of that is not what or who we are. That’s just the noise on the screen. That’s just what is being watched. In earlier times, it was called, “The Monkey Mind.” But that’s not you.
We are (You are) The Watcher. We can (and You can) (eventually) control what we invite into the box, onto the screen, into our consciousness. (And, what we do not.)
A fundamental freedom: To Choose the Focus of Our Attention. But, like any freedom, it’s an ability in disguise.
And any ability is nothing without practice.
