As experienced fundraisers, we have acquired during the years some findings of fundraising during emergencies. We know that the donations rush during the first few days of a disaster/emergency and will fall in volume and amount throughout the following weeks (or days!).
The media attention boosts the public’s interest to help as well as conversion rates. But we also know that, once the spotlight is gone, the organizations’ work has only begun.
So, despite the tendency of emergencies to generate one-off donations, the real need is long-term regular monthly donors to support the work that will often last for months (or years!)
