As I sit down to write this, my mind is on the recent rollback on Affirmative Action, which serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing need for spaces like the annual?Tapia Conference?hosted by the?Center for Minorities and People with Disabilities (CMD-IT).
The Supreme Court decision left many of us feeling disheartened, and after taking some deep breaths, and engaging in safe spaces, I am now?shifting my focus to a place of?appreciation for organizations like CMD-IT. The majority of their programs revolve around empowering minority college students to pursue a career in the fields of computing and technology, and we get to help tell some of their student success stories.?
I’m also thinking of?Genesys Works, which provides high school students in underserved communities with a pathway to professional success through skills training, meaningful work experiences, and impactful relationships. It's an honor for us at Medley to support their efforts nationally and in Houston, New York, and the Bay Area over the past few years.
As an agency, we remain grateful for the perseverance and resilience of humanity in overcoming obstacles. Especially those of us who've been repeatedly disenfranchised. We look forward with hope, inspired by the leaders and organizations committed to providing equal access to education and career development opportunities.?
