Looking at 'Bagong Pilipinas' this week

Hello from Cebu,

A key feature of Filipino elections is that we vote for both the President and the Vice President. This means that two individuals from differing parties can hold the highest executive posts in the land.

The impact of this feature is often covered by news outfits, especially where there is conflict or disagreement on policy and executive decisions.

The recent election, which saw the election of President Bongbong Marcos and his running mate Vice-President Sara Duterte, is one of the few elections where both the president and the vice president from the same ticket won.

The events that transpired last Sunday make Bagong Pilipinas, and the Maisog rally with Sebastian Duterte, worth looking into this week.

Other news we're looking at this week: It looks like cobra sightings are on the rise, the incidence of eight fires in one day in Cebu, and what LTO-7 is looking to do with unclaimed license plates.

Chief socioeconomic planner Arsenio Balisacan says that a 2023 economic growth slightly lower than the previous year’s 7.6 percent but near the government’s 6 to 7 percent target range would be considered acceptable, given the challenges faced by the economy.
