Looking Back & Moving Forward with NCC

As we start another promising year, we at North Coast Container (NCC) like to look back to acknowledge how far we’ve come. In that spirit, we would like to share some of our 2024 achievements with you, while also outlining the exciting plans we have in store for 2025!

What NCC Did in 2024

Continued Focus on Quality & Our Customers

At North Coast Container (NCC), 2024 was all about reinforcing our commitment to our customer-driven operations.

  • To ensure the highest quality and efficiency, NCC invested millions of dollars into upgrading our plants. These enhancements not only elevated our manufacturing capabilities but also enabled us to provide even better service to our partners.
  • We revamped and upgraded our internal audit department to maintain compliance with the latest manufacturing certifications, guaranteeing that our products consistently meet – and exceed – industry standards.

Giving Back

Giving back to the community is a commitment that North Coast Container (NCC) takes seriously. This past year, our team came together to support a number of causes close to our hearts:

  • 9/11 Meal Packing Event - In 2024, we participated in the 9/11 Meal Packing event to honor and remember the lives lost on that fateful day. Our team united to pack meals for those in need, providing meals to those who need it most.

  • Hurricane Helene Response - Hurricane Helene brought devastation to many, and our Charlotte facility team members experienced the impact firsthand. In response, NCC stepped up to provide support by donating fuel to third-party distributors assisting in recovery efforts. This contribution ensured that essential supplies reached affected areas quickly.

What We're Planning for 2025

Understanding & Keeping Up With EU Regulations

During Kyle Stavig’s visit to the ICDM meeting in Kyoto, the European Union’s new Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) emerged as a significant concern for global manufacturers. This regulation is prompting European companies to navigate its complexities and anticipate its impact. If your business operates in the EU, staying informed is essential. Here’s an overview:

The PPWR seeks to reduce packaging waste in the EU by 15% per capita and per Member State by 2040 (compared to 2018). Its goals include minimizing unnecessary packaging, ensuring all packaging is recyclable by 2030, and mandating the inclusion of recycled materials in packaging through minimum use quotas.

Points of Uncertainty We’re Monitoring:

NCC is closely monitoring several aspects of the regulation that remain undefined or in development, including:

  • Recyclability Criteria: Awaiting guidance on labeling packaging as "recyclable."
  • Recyclability Grades: Pending performance classes for evaluating recyclability.
  • Material-Specific Targets: Need for defined reduction targets for materials like plastic, metals, and paper/cardboard.
  • Packaging Definitions: Steel drums are classified as "sales" packaging, potentially complicating mandated recycling rates.
