Looking Back, Moving Forward
As I took time during the Thanksgiving break to reflect on my first two months as President of Cubic Global Defense, I found I was quite thankful for a number of key aspects of my new job:
1. An Outstanding Team
From top to bottom, the creativity and energy of our people helps to develop innovative technologies, allowing us to be a global leader. I’m grateful for their inventive mindset: it’s how we keep our organization adaptive in a rapidly changing world.
I am a firm believer in our One Cubic culture, as we rely on teamwork, inclusion and collaboration to deliver the best solutions to our customers. I’m confident that diversity and inclusion make our teams stronger, helping us to create excellence together. CGD is not just about providing excellent products and services to our customers, but also about providing a great place to work for our employees.
As we continue to expand and innovate around the world, each of our employees has the opportunity to grow in their role and help make Cubic even stronger.
2. Game-changing Technology
It’s a thrill to come to work every day and be able to work with truly game-changing technologies and some of the most innovative people I have ever met. Having attended our recent P72 Hackathon event, I was overwhelmed at how quick, agile and effective our teams are at adapting and integrating technology. It’s always an exciting day when I get to interact with our teams and witness the progress that we’re making to create market leading products for our customers.
We have recently made significant strides in the LVC field for both Air and Ground domains - most notably, fielding the very first ever MLS secure LVC system into the cockpit of a live fighter. Not only did we integrate this technology, but we also demonstrated it successfully in a Joint USAF and USN large force exercise event.
In 2019, we will continue to hone our multi-domain training solutions, and I’m excited to see how our Live, Virtual and Constructive solutions will better prepare warfighters for combat missions.
3. Valued Customers and Partners
CGD is truly a global company, serving customers both at home in the United States and in 35 nations around the world. We value each one of our customers, and that’s why Winning the Customer is at the heart of what we do every day.
Leveraging decades of experience and cutting-edge technologies, we are able to work together with our partners to better equip and train warfighters and law enforcement personnel. I’m grateful for our valued partners in every corner of the globe, as we have the opportunity to collaborate and make the world a safer place. And of course, I’m thankful every day for the sacrifices of servicemembers around the world who serve their nation and help to keep us safe.
Our success at CGD doesn’t come in massive leaps but rather through steady growth. I’m proud and thankful for what we’ve achieved, but we must continue to focus on innovation and improving program performance for the benefit of both customers and shareholders.
Two months in as President of CGD, I am truly grateful I get to lead this effort with our teams and teammates.

Hello Mr. Knowles … ?A nice article, thanks.? We've not met but we now have Cubic in common. I was a software developer with Cubic Defense for many years beginning in 1976, with a 10 year absence from Cubic, but still developing software for TACTS/ACMI at the Tactical Air Ranges Integration Facility (TARIF) at China Lake.? I returned to Cubic and finished m y career as a developer and Software Project Engineer on P5, and then left Cubic in 2008/9 to go into retirement with family in New Haven CT.? In retirement I've been able to further cultivate an appreciation of history of all sorts, in particular history where I've been fortunate in being there as it happened, or close to some of those who themselves were part of history. The story of Cubic, in particular the air ranges products of ACMR/ACMI/TACTS and now P5 TCTS, is one of those histories that is dear to my heart.? Recently I published a short history of those products and some of the people who made it all happen. The book shows the almost lock-step evolution of advancing technology and increasing range capabilities.? I wrote this history so as to provide today's generation of "Cubes" a sense of where they come from and the heritage of Cubic Defense.? I Invite you to take a look at: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1983310549/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_bibl_vppi_i8 its in both paperback and Kindle eBook formats.? I would also encourage you to pass this history around, and possibly get additional historical information and stories from those still with Cubic.? You can learn more about me and the other books I have written at?https://www.amazon.com/Donald-L-Johnson/e/B00C0AZUDK Best Regards, Don Johnson ?
