Looking Back Into the Future

Looking Back Into the Future

Back with another of those TotRockinBeats.

I was so caught up in the system I'd forgotten what was important.?

I was a preoccupied stranger in my family home during the week.?

My son only got to see me at weekends when I was shattered and yet so propelled with guilt that I should have more 'Quality Time'.

The universe has a strange way of turning up the volume on great opportunities once you cut out the crap and are brave enough to make the change.

Turn the clock back to this time eight years ago.?

I worked for an international media agency, running campaigns for some of their biggest clients with budgets that could settle the debts of several third-world countries.

?On the face of it, I was at the top of the tree.?

Except I came to realise that it was the wrong tree.?

I wasn't just on the wrong branch but in the wrong forest.?

Surrounded by flashing data screens and people with beards and skinny jeans, I felt ill.

As you can see

Chicken Pox - Or 'Apoxalypse' Now as It Was Known,

I was so caught up in the system that I'd forgotten what was necessary.?

I was a preoccupied stranger in my family home during the week.?

My son only got to see me at weekends when I was shattered and yet so propelled with guilt that I should have more 'Quality Time'.?

I tried to pack far too much on a Saturday, or 'our day'.?

I have a few short hours to help shape, teach, and learn from one of the most amazingly imaginative humans I have ever met.

My priorities were all bent out of shape. I was focusing on spreadsheets, endless emails, and meetings with people whose egos far outweighed their talent.?

Not the people who made me happy, inspired, supported, or wanted me for me, not what they could get from me.

When I quit that job, I didn't have a plan B. I needed a plan A.?

I just knew I had to go. I had so many ideas, schemes, and dreams about what I wanted to do.?

I wanted to put a dent in the universe, my universe.?

But that's a different story;

It was then that I came up with the idea of producing massive afternoon raves for families, which I branded “TotRockinBeats.”?

The idea took off,?

It really took off.?

After a five-year hiatus, I am bringing TotRockin’ back for one day to raise funds for Dad La Soul.

I’ve assembled a crack commando unit that hasn't been sent to prison by a military court for a crime they didn't commit.

They include:

DJs,

Stand-up comedians.

Soul singers,

Circus performers,

Graffiti artists,?

Dancers,

and bring them together with four hundred families on a Sunday afternoon in a beautiful amphitheatre in a park in Hove.

So join us, and togther we can make a difference.
