#LookingBack
Over the last decade, there have been many changes in my life.
Some good.
Some, not so good.
However, with each, I have learned lessons that will carry me through the next decade.
Some of my “look-backs” include (not in any particular order).
?? Developed my own business, iRock Résumés, from scratch and growing it such that I now have a team all while holding down a full-time corporate job in leadership with a fortune 35 company and a family.
?? Earned 2 Insurance Designations, CPCU and CLU that came with all expense trips to Los Angeles, CA and Hawaii for me and my family. I already had the AIC.
?? Wrote 2 books - You’re HIRED!! Vol 1 & 2.
?? Co-Authored 3 books.
?? Earned 4 Career Certifications all in 2019 - CCTC, CPRW, CEIP, and NCOPE.
?? Had my first of many TV Debuts on Good Morning Texas (thanks for the reminder Brittany Bailey-Major)
?? Trademarked “iRock Résumés” vía USPTO.
?? Trademarked “The Monday Morning Cure” career membership platform via USPTO (coming soon).
?? Got the courage to raise my prices to match the level of success my clients receive from investing in my services (this is a tough one as people don’t value how much a résumé is really worth when it comes to landing a five and six figure job).
?? Securing my own co-working space to host live events/classes/workshops.
?? Taking my business from a résumé only business to offering full career development, corporate training, and outplacement services.
?? Increased my paid speaking engagements in the career related field. I’m a Pastors wife so I am blessed to speak at a lot of churches for women conferences.
?? Been featured on some awesome podcasts and articles.
?? Spoke twice for a national organization, National Résumé Writers Association (NRWA) and did a national webinar on LinkedIn for the national CPCU society.
??Spoke for our local CPCU Dallas Chapter and local conferences, meetups including my own LinkedIn MeetUp & Careers in Transition Group, and other networking events.
??Served on two boards - NRWA and CPCU-Dallas Chapter.
?? Been featured on some awesome podcasts and articles.
?? Had a stroke (TIA) at 43 and recovered.
?? Had rotator cuff surgery and survived (the worst surgery to have, ever).
?? Lost my mother-in-love and feel a void. Lost my mom in 2007 and still miss her today.
?? Saw my daughter graduate from high school and is now attending college. She went from struggling to succeeding with a B+ average.
?? Witnessed how ugly church folks can be even when you love them despite of it all as that’s what God calls us to do.
?? Stood by my husband, during one of the toughest times of his Pastorate. We are still standing strong. #25yearsandcounting.
?? Set out to and have met some incredible people through networking groups, NARW, and CPCU. I learned very quickly there is life beyond the “farm”.
There are so many other things I can mention that I’m probably forgetting. But, I thank God for all that has transpired and what will be in 2020.
What does your look back look like? When you write them out in a compound way like I have done, it will inspire you to keep moving forward.
Let's connect and make 2020 an awesome entry into the next decade.
