Looking Ahead

Looking Ahead

After writing my last post (Reflections as the HDC Executive Director ), wheels continued to spin as I starting thinking about the year ahead. I'm very proud of the work we've done. I’ve gotten to know my team, worked alongside the Board and have had opportunities to work with our family physician end-users. As we begin planning for 2022, I am looking forward to:

  1. Supporting Protected Time for Physicians QI Engagement

Working with GPSC strengthens our impact, especially when we know that many of our physicians are stretched thin and struggle to find dedicated time for QI. The Practice Support Program (PSP) is a GPSC funded program that offers protected time through the PSP QI Facilitation Cycles . Each eligible team member in a practice can receive compensation for up to 15 hours of work for participating in eligible QI activity. I am looking forward to hearing more stories, like Dr. El Karsh and Suzanne’s , that illustrate data-driven quality improvement.

GPSC has also launched a new GPSC payment program for family doctors who have completed panel management and would like to enroll and complete an orientation with their own data in HDC Discover. The payment supports family doctors to protect time to orient and spark curiosity regarding their own practice measures and comparators. When we engage physicians with their data, physicians often find opportunities for further investigation or action. When we add up all of these small acts, we can clearly see a way forward for richer data-informed quality improvements across the province. I’m grateful for the on-going GPSC support as we continue working together on initiatives to enable data-informed healthcare.?

2. Contributing to the Collective Community Effort?

Through the initiatives mentioned above, we are witnessing the desired effect to kick-start more data-informed discussions with individual physicians, which is organically seeding community efforts. With the recent launch of HDC Discover access for Divisions of Family Practice, we are providing communities with baselines that were previously manually intensive to collate and comparators to help with perspective.?We are excited to contribute to the collective effort by supporting community QI and learning programs across the province.?

3. Growing HDC’s Dataset and Application

Our current enrolment rate is awesome and it's been exciting to watch the growth of the physician user base and associated dataset. We recently surpassed 1,000 physicians enrolled which was a tipping point. This milestone tells us that physicians support the HDC vision and values the way the application supports their practice. This is worth celebrating and it continues to motivate the team to consider enhancements to meet the growing and diverse user interests around the province.?

4. Being In-Person?

Finally, I can’t wait to be in-person with our HDC Discover users, Board members and team again! In-person conversations can be so rich and we have been starved from these interactions for too long. I’m looking forward to being in a room together, sharing food, drinks and ideas.?Data party anyone?!

I am so grateful to be part of an organization whose purpose is to enable data-informed healthcare. I optimistically look forward to the new milestones that we will achieve, learnings we’ll experience together and opportunities that will be presented in the coming year. ?
