Looking after Future You

Looking after Future You

I wonder how you feel about my focus on a single minded mission to alert overbusy women to our gradual socialisation into living our lives in or around a state of burnout as just part of 21st century living? Is it too much? What do you think?

?I feel free to talk about this because as you most likely know by now if you have been following me, as a passionate professional young woman I spent years just existing rather than living,....and during this time I would have deeply resented any suggestion that I was at or near burnout.

Looking back now I believe that I?mostly limped through these depleted years with my own coping mechanisms of?suppressing and pretending

?The Wilderness Years

My emotions were locked away and I?got used to living under layers of pretence.

My body paid the price with frequent exhaustion and illness, and an?unrecognised?out of control nervous system.

I was disconnected from my own feelings and my deepest desires were inhibited,?

I was amazed at how often I was 'not my usual kind self'?as I lashed out, was resentful, jealous, and angry.

Behind a facade of professional success and achievement, I was disillusioned and lonely, and became used to living with a feeling that somehow I was not enough or did not really belong.

?Coming Home To Calm

More than likely you know my story?by now- I crashed and burned, and eventually came home to calm with the help of nature, neuroscience and?ancient wisdom.

I slowly learned the art and skill of pausing, which allows me to:

notice

accept

allow

surrender

rest

enjoy

flow

feed my soul

love,

be happy, strong and resilient.

?

The Art and Skill of Pausing

It was my own experience and that eventually led me to the art and skill of pausing, and this is why I intentionally call out burnout and signpost you if you need it to your own pathway away from burnout and your own inner calm.

Read this next paragraph slowly -it is my gift to you

It's not just O.K. to pay attention to your own needs, it is essential. An undernourished heart and soul is like the Dee of old, limping along but not really living.

So please take care of yourself, allow yourself to pause enough to find your own way home to your own inner calm. From this place of peace, inner calm and resilience

you will share your passion and gifts with the world with flow and ease.

'There are no manuals for the construction of the individual you would like to become. You are the only one who can decide this and take up the lifetime of work that it demands. This is a wonderful privilege and such an exciting adventure. To grow into the person that your deepest longing desires is a great blessing. If you can find a creative harmony between your soul and your life, you will have found something infinitely precious. You may not be able to do much about the great problems of the world or to change the situation you are in,?but if you can awaken the eternal beauty and light of your soul, you will bring light wherever you go. The gift of life is given to us for ourselves and also to bring peace, courage, and compassion to others.'JOHN O'DONOHUE (excerpt from his book, Eternal Echoes)
