Lookback: Nidobirds in 2024

With 2025 gaining steam, it’s time to reflect on last year’s activity in the nest. Despite a shaky German economy, its startup ecosystem remains strong. Remarkably, most of our new investments this year came from Hamburg, underscoring the city’s growing significance as a hub of innovation.

Beneficent brains in Hamburg

In 2024 we invested in bold founders tackling gnarly problems.

• The team of microbiologists at Colipi developed a technology to turn CO2 (bad) into oils (good) for multiple industries from beauty products to aviation fuels.
• Anonetics throws the fax machine out of the doctor’s office by digitalising communication, DSGVO-compliant.
• mo:re develops lab robots to automate production of “mini organs” for animal-free medical research — a technology strongly endorsed by lab mice.

Scale ups in the UK

We participated in follow-on rounds of three portfolio firms, both in the UK: Aura continued to gain share by transforming the antiquated funeral industry. Mayku’s innovative pressure-forming technology is finding applications across new verticals, especially dental labs. Streamline Media is a creators collaboration platform that includes rights attribution and protection technology.

2025? Bring it on.

More bold ideas, more impact, and – fingers crossed - fewer lab mice and fax machines. Startups in the pre-seed and seed stages will find our doors open and full attention given to bold new businesses.
