We’re continuing our look into the crystal ball at what your future of Magento could be for you.
One area where Magento shines about all is the with the robust developer community. If you run your ecommerce store on a niche platform you may be stuck with a very small pool of developers to choose from and that may leave you in a bind.
While Magento is complex and requires a specific knowledge base, they number of people working on the platform means answers are easier to find. Additionally, Magento has invested in Magento U as a resource for getting developers up to speed.
Other platforms, such as BigCommerce have moved away from full open source to give you a “best of both worlds” with an open-SaaS approach. This is why it is much easier to work on than open source platforms and in many cases more can be accomplished with the same budget.
If you move forward with Magento 2 you have many options to choose from - Open Source, Magento Commerce, Magento Cloud, Magento Order Manager, and Magento Business Intelligence.
In the end, we encourage you to shed the idea that you need a platform to run your web store.
