Look Within - Have A Great 4th Of July Weekend

When we look for talent or inspiration a lot of times we look to the outside world. There is nothing wrong with that. It is important to look for external guidance and you will get fresh ideas and perspectives. However, it is equally important to Look Within.?

Why should one look within??

Even if you end up with a great idea, you need to execute well. It is your people, from within, who will need to execute. You need to understand the talent you have, their skill sets, interests, and more. If you do not pay attention to your core team’s abilities, you will not be able to achieve their fullest potential. You need to understand their strengths and weaknesses so you can complement them.?

When we work on something new and need great talent to execute, one of the first things we try to do is see who can we find from within the company who will be great at this. We ask, ‘Who could we challenge to take up a new role?’. This has yielded good results for us.? There are also exceptions to this. You may just have no options from within and your team may be maxed out. In these instances, one of the things you could do is to look at what your team is currently working on and see if it is something very important. Does it align with your company goals and purpose? Oftentimes, when you do this exercise you will find that there are many things you could subtract. You free up people’s time and you can find talent from within.?

Look within:

It does not stop with your team. It is also good to do some searching from within. We might have taken on too many things on our plate and we may not be able to focus on key things that matter. Holidays are a great time to look within. You can do some searching, see what is working and what is not. Free up your time so you have more time to think and take on important work.
