Look What He Could Build With More Lego Bricks?—?Lego in 1976

A prime example of ‘sell the outcome, not the product.’

What does Lego actually sell?

What a stupid question WD.

Toys. They sell toys.

Umm… I don't think so. Of course, they produce toys. That’s the commodity their factories produce.

But, does that LEGO really sell?

If they sell the toys at the basic commodity level, they never become as successful a brand as they are today.

There are dozens of toys already in the market for cheap prices.

Why would anyone pay extra to buy a similar kinda toy for their kids?

Okay.

But, What do they actually sell?

Imagination, Pride, Creativity.

The products simply allow the children to reach the outcomes. Lego doesn’t make a single product that doesn’t help children to;

develop their imagination, become proud, and be creative.

The moment they fail to deliver these results is the moment they start losing their sense of brand.

In LEGO advertisements, you can see what they tryna sell.

Take this gem from 1976 for?example.

Here’s something funny about this. You’ll love this.

Here, they didn’t write their add for their audience. It’s for a reason.

What reason?

Because The ones who use the Lego products don’t decide for themselves. It’s their parents who do.

So, they wrote the add to the parents of their users.

It’s like selling tools to corporations.

The ones who are successful at it don’t advertise to their users. Instead, they advertise to the bosses of their users.

Funny. Isn’t it?

In the add, they relate to the perspective of the parents. They could write how fun it is to play with LEGOs.

But, as a parent, you care more about your child’s future. You think about how you can make your little princess, a queen one day.

The story they tell here is about the growth of the child.

We all know how fun is to play with toys. But, they show something more than fun here.

Here, they add appeals to your emotions, it makes you feel good about bringing LEGO’s into your child’s hands.

And then give insights that help rationalize the emotions they make you feel.

No use of facts and figures.

The add literally has everything in it.

I have just two words to say and two words only.

Fucking brilliant!

Little but important reminder:

It’s easy to punish your children. It’s easy to make them ‘disciplined’ because it makes your life easier. It’s easy to abandon them. It’s easy to make your child do what you want them to do.

But, what’s hard is parenting them to become healthy human beings. Physically, mentally, and emotionally.

Raise them with care. One day, they will share that love not only with you but with the world around you.

I’m WD??.
