Each week I will be sharing some video idea prompts to make sure you are never starting from a blank page. These prompts leverage the power of storytelling in video, which is something that I believe and teach.

This week's?prompt?is:?The 180° Rule ??

The 180° Rule falls under the Content Category of?"Misconceptions"

Overview

• The effort is to be contrarian and controversial.
• Push back against the status quo.
• Share a belief that you know a majority of people would disagree with.
• This works well for video content designed to go viral because it attracts a lot of comments and engagement.

Example

• "If you don't make money and grow your wealth, you are selfish! ??
• If money is a powerful tool and you do not own that tool, how can you make an impact on the world? I used to view acquiring money as a selfish endeavor, but as I realized that it took substantial resources to help others, I started looking at money differently. Money is that powerful tool that can be used for good and if you are a good person, then it is selfish of you not to make more money... because a good person will do great things with that tool!"

Framework

• Directly state the controversial perspective in one sentence.
• Ask a question that challenges the common belief system.
• Explain how the common belief system kept you stuck in some way.
• Tell the story of how your life got better when you changed your perspective.
• Explain why your perspective has more merit than the common way of seeing things.
• Describe the benefit to the viewer (why are they better off believing this?)

• Audio is king. If you can only upgrade one thing, make it audio. And remember that you don’t need the top-of-the-line mic. In fact, you can sound great on a $40 mic if you have the right technique and environment.
• Looking good doesn’t require an expensive camera. Lighting is a big part of it – get a few white lights and position them properly to give yourself the best possible picture for your camera to capture. Oh, and a little makeup to reduce your face shine goes a long way too.
• But really, it’s about story-telling and getting your reps in. You can’t make a good video if you don’t make video. So use the best of what you have and start recording!
