Look the other way
To look the other way. It’s an interesting phrase. Two interpretations immediately spring to mind:
1. Look the other way to avoid seeing something unpleasant or uncomfortable?
2. Look the other way to see something in a different light, with a fresh perspective
I guess we’ve all done both.
Maybe we’ve been handed a difficult situation with a troublesome volunteer and we’ve looked the other way in the hope that the situation resolves itself before we have to get involved.
Perhaps what we needed was to look the other way at that difficult situation and find a new perspective, perhaps walking a mile in the volunteer’s shoes to understand why they are behaving the way they are.
Maybe we’ve tried to look the other way with a strategic challenge, finding a new angle to help us innovate. Perhaps that’s led to us over-thinking, frustration and eventually inaction.
Perhaps what we needed was to look the other way and ignore that annoying strategic issue for a short while. Give it some space and time, to ruminate and allow an answer to find us?
In what way do you need to look the other way today?

3 年Thanks for this post Rob Jackson! I'm looking the other way today, with the hopes that when I look back it will be at the whole landscape in front of me! I think it easy to be so focused in on a specific challenge or task, that sometimes the options for solutions, benefits or possibilities that already exist around you become blurry at time. Looking back for the big picture!
