A Look at Christmas

What is Christmas about? Robins, Trees, Santa or a Baby?
Taking down the decorations and going through the cards. I noticed that among the many cards we received last Christmas, there were none with messages saying “Seasons Greetings, “Xmas” or “Happy Holiday”. I realize that we automatically put those in the bin as soon as we receive them. This year, there was only one such greeting card that had to be thrown away.
Why do we do this? Christmas celebrates the birth of Christ. A few years ago I actually made a point of calling my close friends, who innocently sent us happy holiday or merry Xmas or seasons greetings cards, at Christmas. I explained why a card depicting the birth of the Lord Jesus with Merry Christmas on it would be the best wish they could send us.
Happy Holiday?
Which holiday? There are so many during the year. It looks like Christians have joined the pagans with their insulting “happy holiday”.
Seasons Greetings?
Which season? Winter, Spring, Summer or Autumn? I am not PC especially when it comes to my Faith. Please call Christmas by the right name as we all know it.?

Merry Xmas?
Never mind the fact that everyone goes on about how it was a pagan festival long before it became a celebration of the birth of Christ. It doesn’t matter whether, or not it was the actual date of the birth of Christ. That is not an excuse for disrespecting or ignoring the baby (who brings blessings and goodness all year round) but instead we celebrate an old man in imaginary flying sleigh instead, (because we believe he brings us presents), once a year. Poor St Nicholas must be turning in his grave.
Unfortunately, people are crowd pleasers and crowd followers who think it’s intellectual and cool to abbreviate words. It’s just lazy. Why else would a Christian send a Christmas card abbreviating Christmas to Xmas, which cancels and crosses out the name Christ from Christmas. ‘Mas’, or ‘Mass’ means celebration, so whatever translation or reason people may give for the ‘X’, to me it is still a sign of disrespect. ??
My husband’s name is Stephen and he spells it with ‘ph’. He does not like it to be abbreviated to Steve. My name is Patricia or Patti and I do not appreciate it being abbreviated to Pat or Patsy and consider it too familiar and disrespectful. So what does it mean when we allow ourselves to follow others, who are none believers in Jesus Christ, into disrespecting the name of Christ. “Do not take the name of the Lord your God in vain” says the Ten Commandments. Other celebrations respectfully retain their titles i.e. every year, I wish my Asian friends happy Diwali, to my Muslim friends happy Eid-al-Fitr, to my Jewish friends happy Hanukkah and happy Passover, so what then do people have against Christmas and the name of Christ? Why would they rather celebrate Santa Claus and decorated trees?
On your Birthday, I would like you to take a moment and imagine that on the special day, which your parents have set aside as your birthday, all your friends and family members forget about you, but send presents to each other. They organize parties on your birthday, but you, the birthday boy or girl, is not invited or even mentioned. And on top of all that they call their celebration of your special day, a holiday to which you are excluded. The main guest at the party celebrating what they say is your ‘Special Day’ is an imaginary postman delivering their presents.
Oh yes! For the rest of the year, because you “the Birthday Baby” have the power over life and death and you are in a great position to provide their needs, your family and friends spend night and day asking for your help with their problems and they want many special favours from you. Wow!!!
Luckily for human beings, I am not God or the Lord Jesus because my answer to all their requests for help, will be a resounding No!!
