A look back into my 2020...
It was Dec 23, 2019.
I was on the way to the last meeting before my holiday vacation.
And…
I got hit by a delivery truck while crossing a crossroad. It stopped on my right foot which broke all five toes. I got surgery the next morning & spent Christmas day in the hospital.
That was not all, I got another surgery, skin graft, a month later since the top skin of my foot was dead due to being crushed by such a heavy weight of the truck.
I couldn’t use my right leg for 4 months.
The feet pic above was taken on the first day after taking the cast off after 4 months wearing since the accident. I had 6 metal pins stuck each toe (2 pins for big toe).
I was in a lot of pain and lived off pain killer, sleeping pills and antidepressant drugs. Because of the accident, I was diagnosed having PTSD and it wasn’t easy to get over it. I used to take 50+ pills everyday to get through a day!
But I tried to stay and think in positive ways about this episode of my life.
1. I told people it was actually better this happened in winter instead of summer especially very humid and summer in Korea. Wearing a heavy and thick cast would have not been easy. In this case, at least, it kept my leg warm.
2. I was lucky wearing boots on the day of the accident. Otherwise, my toes might not have survived. I had a very deep cut. The doctor said that because the truck was so heavy and parked on my foot for several seconds (the driver literally got out of the car and walked around and saw me under the truck and walked back to his truck while I was screaming), my toes were bursted like balloons.
Actually, when I got to ER, they had to cut off my boot to get my foot out since it was heavily bleeding in my boot. Phew!
3. In fact, the accident stopped me from going on my vacation in Shanghai, China when COVID-19 literally started. I probably would get one if I went!
So it seemed it worked better for me, not getting COVID-19 despite I didn’t have mobility and had depression for almost a year.
It took me a good 9 months to wear my regular shoes again.
Now I’m drug free. I was blessed to have wonderful friends who supported me during my dark moments. I feel so lucky to be surrounded by kind and loving people and have more empathy for people with challenges. I never used crutches before and I have better understanding what it is like walking up and down staircases and basically just walk! Definitely it gives me a better perspective of what is more important in life, compassion.
Still recovering since I still can’t fully feel my foot. Take a day a time to get better.
I’m trying to see a better side of everything so it keeps me going.
Going into 2021 with more empathy, adding immense value to my friends, family & customers and most importantly with abundance love for life. :)
