Dear IITMRP community, we wish you all a very Happy New Year! As the year comes to a close, we are proud to share that IITMRP has had a transformative and landmark 2022 in many respects.
Working together collaboratively, we have been able to develop new innovations that have been successfully commercialized in India for the world at large.?We have also made headway into each of our visionary 10X goals, an ambitious initiative aiming to elevate and transform India through leveraging partnerships with key industry & academic institutions in India and globally.
We hope to continue to work together in achieving these mammoth goals and elevate India as a revered technological leader in the world.??
Here's a glimpse into some of our most note-worthy moments of 2022!
LiveMint talks to Prof Ashok Jhunjhunwala on the origin of IITM Research Park, the journey of its spectacular success to make the “impossible, possible”, commercializing Indian R&D to global markets, incubating some of India’s most impactful deep-tech startups like AgniKul, Ather, Uniphore, Stellapps, etc and to today becoming “The Incubator of Dreams” to countless more that tread the same path!
The Symposium on "Imagining India@2047 through innovation" brought over 400 select delegates - IAS officers, academics & startups (in-person & virtually), to brainstorm innovative solutions with an emphasis on self-reliant indigenous technologies.?Going forward, detailed Vision papers prepared by the delegates will be evolved continuously to develop the roadmap for Vision India 2047.
Inspired by the ‘Lego-model’, Build Club helps young technologists rediscover their passion towards building things through carefully curated DIY tech projects, giving youngsters the confidence to kickstart their entrepreneurial journeys. Build Club was launched this year across 4 states impacting 550+ students from 9 partner institutions!
After months of perseverance and a historic moment later, India witnessed its first audio-video call using the next-gen 5G voice over new radio (VoNR) technology developed end-to-end at the indigenous 5G testbed at IITMRP, demonstrated by Union Minister Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw.
As a part of IIT Madras Research Park and IITM Incubation Cell’s ambitious 10X program, the detailed study and report put the limelight on gaps in financial inclusion despite the transformation in the Financial Services sector. This report marked a step towards enabling India to become a leader in ‘Fintech for Inclusion’ by 2030.
Part of a network of 12 global centers, this state-of-the-art facility aims to engage top scientists focusing on product innovation for global markets, analytical tech transfers for small molecules & sterile injectables, Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API) development & Analytical method development.

The Hon'bl minister was given an overview of the various innovations developed at IITMRP, the technologies developed by our incubated startups and student innovation projects. He later delivered an inspirational talk to our young students, entrepreneurs & innovators at IITMRP, sharing inspiring insights into India's growth, scaling innovation & encouraging them to pursue ambitious dreams for the country.??
Named Rocket Factory 1, this one of a kind expansive facility sprawls across 10,000-sq.ft and houses a metal 3D-printer from EOS where both their rocket engines - Agnite & Agnilet will be completely fabricated & assembled from scratch, in-house. It was unveiled by Mr. N Chandrasekaran, Chairman, Tata Sons & Mr. Somanath S, Chairman, ISRO.
IITM Incubation Cell and Daimler India Commercial Vehicles (DICV) joined hands to set up a technology epicenter to identify and mentor mobility startups. Coined as "DICV-IITMIC", the joint incubator will facilitate innovation in emerging mobility technologies and co-create long term mobility solutions - the next phase of growth in India.??
The 5th edition of India’s Foremost Assistive Technology (AT) Conference was conducted by IITMRP with distinguished chief guests, speakers and philanthropists. The conference also witnessed the reveal of Driving Affordable & Quality Assistive Technology (DAQAT) startups and an expansive AT startup exhibit.
The first edition of EnVision was flagged off by chief guests Dr. N Kalaiselvi and Mr. MM Murugappan. The conference witnessed a number of talks & panel discussions by industry & academia centered around the key themes of Renewable Energy Generation: Techno-economics, Energy storage systems and enhancing energy efficiency.
Vision & AI technology and Student Hackathon brought together technology experts, faculty, startups and students to brainstorm the future of automation and AI - towards Industry 4.0. IITMRP also released a Technology Validation Report of Detect Technologies, extensively focusing on the application potential and commercial viability of the technology and solutions developed by the startup.?
