About the Animation Cluster

Facilitator Mary Smyth    Jan - March 2019

Participating Schools:

  • 5th Cass, Scoil Mhuire Newtownforbes
  • 3rd Class, Melview National School
  • 4th Class, Scoil Samhthann Ballinalee

Overview

The Longford cluster explored local stories near their schools through the medium of animation. Mary (animator) partook in a 6 week residency in each of the schools during which time the students engaged in a number of different artistic processes in the development of their films including drawing, illustration, script-writing, storyboarding, character design, voice-acting, model-making and claymation. Each school created their own animation which is ultimately ending in a premiere screening (this Saturday! 15/06/19) of the three short films during Cruinniú na nóg in the Longford Library, 11am and a screening in August during the Still Voices Short Film Festival. They will also be available as a resource for other schools in the region. The project involved 5th class Scoil Mhuire Newtownforbes, 3rd class Melview National School and 4th class Scoil St. Samhthann Ballinalee. The films will be available online after the screenings.
