No longer a Microsoft MVP

When a Microsoft MVP says that they are losing their Microsoft MVP award, it is usually followed by "because I am joining Microsoft". But, in my situation it is not the case. I am just giving up on renewal because it I feel my weekends and late nights are better spent going for a walk, reading a book, watching a movie or simply close my eyes and listen to some music.

There was time when my only aim was to get this award and all my energy and focus was spent on this journey to becoming an MVP. Only after I became an MVP did I realise that my journey has just begun, and I have to keep up with my contributions as renewal is a yearly activity.

Pre-COVID I don't think I even thought about the renewals that seriously, as I was able to come up with tools or blog posts to show for that year, but after the passing away of my father, my whole outlook towards life has changed. Not a day goes by where I do not think about the fragility of human life, pace of change in Power Platform + Azure and whether my tech work after 5 PM or weekends really has any meaning or purpose, as everything seems to be legacy in 2 years.

I still enjoy reading about tech, listening to tech podcasts, watching community calls on YouTube, but I think doing tech for fun without thinking about renewals or feel the pressure to come up with content to meet renewal criteria year after year is way easier without the label of MVP.

From prompting and supporting me during my very first User Group Presentation, to sharing lemon Noodles at the Dept of Education you taught me more about CRM than anyone, especially during the old school on prem days. You will always be an MVP to me and I can’t wait to see the positive impacts you influence outside of the title. While I never held the prestigious MVP badge, thank you Natraj for everything you have contributed to the community and to me personally.

I feel you. I did the MVP thing for 3 years but then with younger kids and different day job scenarios I just decided not to pursue it any longer. It was a great program and some of my career highlights were during that time but it is time-consuming and not where everyone wants to be.
